I was wondering what are some of the best states for Electrical Engineers? i.e. salary, cost of living, number of opportunies, location etc.

I am asking because my gf and i are graduating undergrad next spring and she has been looking at grad schools for her major. The problem is that her major is rare (speech and hearing sciences) and we want to be in a mild climate since we’ve lived in NY our whole lives.
Thus, we’ve narrowed it down to either:
North Carolina
South Carolina
Florida
Texas
Missouri
If you could say why one is better than the others.
I’m leaning towards Optics but I’m pretty much open in terms of fields.

What area of electrical engineering are you in? TI, AMD, and Intel, have operations in Austin and a few other big cities in Texas. The research triangle (Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Durham) in North Carolina has engineering jobs. South Carolina is not a mild climate.

Southern California - Good colleges, Better climate, better recreation (you can snow ski and water ski on the same day).
As for engineering positions, look at the Sunday Los Angeles times classified for EE positions (you can do it online)
